Anyway got to campus eventually, and realized that I wasn't prepared at all for my "Urban Workout" Class that I signed up for at the gym. It was outside, and I brought only shorts and a t-shirt. So I ran around trying (and failing) to find sweatpants. I did, however, buy a purple "University of Glasgow" sweatshirt. Nice. Anyway decided just to wear my jeggings (that's "jean-leggings," to any non-fashionistas. Yeah, I'm that cool.) to class with the sweatshirt, figuring the class wouldn't be that intense anyway. False. It was twelve or so fully track-suit-attired 35+ year old women. In shape. Ready to roll. The trainer looked like he could crush a bear in a fight. In short, "Urban Workout" is not easy. Alternately jogging, sprinting, weaving, and doing pushups for an hour is not easy. And it's particularly embarassing when pure competitive spirit is the only thing that had me keeping pace, and almost at the cost of a heart attack, even though I was the youngest person there by about 10 years. Yeah.
So, after that, I ran and found Tory (who went to my high school and then to the University of Glasgow for college). We had a lovely lunch on Ashton lane (which JK Rowling's Diagon Alley is based on) at a diner called "Ketchup" which had gluten free lettuce burgers. Oh! Get this: Tory was diagnosed with gluten intolerance 4 days ago. It's everywhere! We stopped at a nice whole-foods-like supermarket and found LOTS of gluten free goodies. Including chocolate muffins!!
After that I went back to the university, read for a bit, and then went to dinner at another study abroad students apartment with a bunch of Wolfson kids. That was actually really fun, and I think it might become a bi-weekly sort of thing.
So, that's my day in review. Don't really have very many pictures, but let's see...
So that's Camila jumping into my picture of the lit-up university. |
And that is the intended night-lit picture of the university. |
And that's my gluten free shelf!! |
Much love,
Erin
